I be up in the gym just workin' on my fitness

For those of you who know me, you know that I have always been a runner.

::It is my therapy::

If I am mad~I go run. If I have a big decision to make~I go run. If I am feeling happy/healthy/excited~ I go run. If there is something bothering me and I can't pinpoint it~I go run and of course if I am feeling out of shape and like a master chubster~I go run.

::I love it::

For as long as I can remember I have always spent my extra time on the track or trail. However I have found that since having Colton I have been more exhausted than ever and losing the motivation to run. This is NEVER good!

::I kept coming up with excuses::

The trail is just far enough away, I don't want to deal with traffic, I don't wanna use that gas, I am exhausted, I am not that out of shape (so not true!), I have to wait another 2 hours to feed/change load up C and head out....and so on.

So what have I done to counter these excuses? As soon as I get home from work I change from my work clothes into my workout clothes. I pick a time of day to hit the trail (usually around 5), this helps with coordinating both schedules (c's and mine). I decide exactly how long I am going to run and how to execute it...like 3 miles-run for 10 min. walk for 5 min. run for 10 min. walk for 5 min etc. Yes, I am still easing myself into running a full 3 miles. Injuries are never good and definitely DO NOT help with getting into shape. And the ultimate thing that keeps me motivated to run is to pick a road race to train for. This way I have a goal with an end in sight and it helps that you have to shell out some dough to run in these things and I'd hate to waste that! I am in the process of picking a MARATHON!! may God help me!

Even after all of this I found myself getting bored. The same routine all the time gets a little redundant so I thought I would try something new to add to my running schedule....YOGA! I have NEVER worked out inside my home. I get flashes of Richard Simmons bouncing around my living room in his entirely too short and glittery shorts and imagined I must be looking like a fool. Just. Plain. Silly.

::BUT::

I heard that Bethenny Frankel (yes, the real housewife of New york) had made a Yoga video so I bought it. I know, I know, how silly is it that it took a "reality star" to get my lazy bum in action. I do love her though. She has a KILLER bod AND had a baby last year so this gives me hope. She claims that this is her only workout and if this is ALL she does and looks like she does then I will be in shape in no time if I conjoin this with running!

I tried the video this morning. It is awesome. I have NEVER done yoga before. ever. My sister has done the bikram yoga ~the sit in a sauna yoga~ and said she just loved it but I never thought it was something for me...in a sauna or not. After doing it this morning, sauna free, I have decided it is definitely something I will be doing at least a few times a week. It is a 40 minute workout and man did I realize how tight and out of shape my muscles are. It was amazing to take the little time to meditate and stretch out my muscles.

I love that I have discovered working out in my living room and I can take it seriously. It was so nice to plop C in his swing and get to work. He sweetly napped and I didn't have to coordinate schedules, get in my car, deal with traffic or waste any gas. Greatness.

Here is the video. Get it, do it.
you should also go to her website, she has lots of good, healthy recipes and health and fitness tips.... bethenny.com

I do realize she is a shameless promoter of her skinnygirl margarita but hey, she's got it going on.

  1. ah!! i LOVE yoga. watching it, you wouldn't think it was a good workout but it really is. i learned this when i was a byu. we did yoga in a couple of my dance classes and i was in such good shape. i LOVED my body for the first time in my life. sure, i was also dancing and doing pilates, but i think the yoga and stretching really helped lengthen my muscles and give me a long lean figure.

    i love the onesies you made!! good job. colton is such a big boy! can you believe how fast time is going?

  2. I love pilates and yoga! We have yogax from p90x and I like to do it once in awhile. Let me rephrase, I like to TRY to do it :) but I have an awesome pilates video I bought from my golds gym pilates instructors, haha. I love it though and it is nice to still be able to workout even when you don't have a gym membership anymore (like me).

  3. I haven't even had Miles yet but I'm already started to plot my "comeback" haha! That sounds silly since I'm NOT the runner I used to be, but when I was getting back in shape from Dylan I would do Jillian Micheals 30 min. shred. Short but HARD work out. There are 3 levels so it allows you to ease back into it. It is great when you literally can only get away for a few minutes. I'm planning on doing the Dallas White Rock half and possibly the Rock 'n' Roll half if you want to join!?! The White Rock I'm literally doing it just to have a goal in mind, but Rock 'n' Roll I'm hoping to set a new PR :) I still have that competitor in me somewhere! I did yoga for the first time last year but I felt silly doing it by myself so I did it at the gym. It was great to feel like you could take a nap right after working out! haha but it is a GREAT workout.
