In all the years I have lived in Texas I have never attended a livestock show or an FFA event. I have been so multiple rodeos both in mesquite and Houston but never the actual livestock portion. I had to chance to watch a couple of Justin's cousins show their lambs that they had raised the last few months. Anna and Kelly both participate in their schools FFA program which offers them the chance to buy and raise their choice of animal and then show them in the schools competition. It was so much fun and I really learned a lot. I seriously thought that FFA had kinda gone by the wayside here in the south but it is pretty prominent, guess I was just ignorant to all of it. Anywho, Anna did really well and her lamb pasquala obeyed her so well. I was quite impressed. Kelly and sweet pea also did really great. Kelly made 6 place out of i think about 20 in their weight class and her lamb made it to auction. What does that mean? Well after the FFA competition is over all of the animals go to the respected slaughter houses unless they win or are picked for auction. At the auction they are bid on and bought and all the money goes to the kid who raised it. So the kids get to make a little profit off the animal in the end. Pretty sweet. Most of the time the money they make just goes to the next animal they get in the next semester. Anna wants to do a steer eventually....I can't wait to see that! She is the most compassionate person ever and I do not know how she does this time after time. These guys get really attached to their animals and then have to just say goodbye. It is sad and lots of tears were shed but these girls did great! We were proud of them and I was so happy to be able to watch it all!
