Do Tell

Ok, so we are closing in on due date time and I want all of your suggestions. J and I haven't done much shopping or had any baby showers as of yet which allows me to ask all of you out there for your thoughts, advice and suggestions. I want to know what items you could NOT live without and which ones you could pass on. I know some things will vary as to whether or not Colton likes them but I am ready and open to hearing ALL of your thoughts. We have already registered but I find our registry to be full of a lot of, well, stuff....and I am pretty sure we don't NEED all of it. So lay it on me, swings, pacifiers, bottles, bathing, sleeping whatever it may be.
I did find a cute little website, mypacifier.com and on there you can customize your pacifiers to say different things. I know that I will most likely lose them but I thought it would still be something fun to do and have. AND it's pretty cheap, 3 for 15 bucks.
Anywho, thanks for your thoughts! Hope everyone is doing well!

  1. I have a few cute pacifiers like that for Dylan and a Texas Tech one, but he won't take them. He will only take the little aqua "soothie" type ones, so don't buy too many 'til you know what one will work. I need to update my blog with my favorite things so far!

  2. the only two things i can think of that i just LOVE are
a boppy for nursing (less pain on your back).
and a mesh bather. it's the only one we had so i don't really know any different but i really liked it and we'll use it for the third time with penelope. it just seems way more comfortable for baby than the hard plastic ones. and it folds up. i like when things aren't big and bulky. you can just let it dry off and put it away.

none of my kids have taken bottles or pacifiers, so i don't know anything about those but i'd suggest waiting, like your friend above said, until you figure what colton prefers.

and i never had a bumbo with the boys (because i didn't know what they were back then) but i bought one this time around. it just seems like a good thing to have?

oh, one more thing. we really liked our high chair. i think we got it at
wal-mart? (or target?) and it just buckles to a regular chair. some high chairs take up so much extra room but with this one, you can just unbuckle it and put it in the closet. it's not in the way at all. it's easy to clean (just wipe off with a wet towel) and the cover is removable so you can wipe the seat down too.

hope that helps! we're on the lookout for a carseat and stroller right now. it's hard because i want safety and style but we really don't want to spend a lot of money.

  4. Well...you sorta just learn what you need as you discover you don't have it and wish you did! I agree with Carrie 100% about the boppy (or any kind of nursing pillow). We (well Cooper) really like our wipee warmer too (it's nice on boys especially-cause they seem to be little more sensitive to cold in that area). Pacifiers...I agree with your friend...you gotta see what they like before you buy too many because they can be PRETTY picky! I will say though that the brownish colored ones have a taste to them, so I'd go with the clear silicone material in whatever shape baby boy decides he likes. Don't know anything about bottles, so no help there-but if you're going to nurse, get some of those Lansinoh nursing pads (I say that brand because they're really thin and not as bulky as others).

That's all I can think of for now! Hope it helps :)

  5. It has been awhile but with Dylan he LIVED in his swing for about 6 weeks! It was the ONLY way he would sleep!!! But I've told other people that and their kids could have cared less! With breastfeeding you HAVE to have the boppy, and I highly recommend the bumbo (esp. if he doesn't like tummy time) A bouncer was also really nice to have in the morning when I was getting ready for work, or in the evening when making dinner. Thats all I can think of for now!

  6. Get ready for an earful ;)
A vibrating/bouncing chair- this was a lifesaver for me when liv was gassy (which was pretty much the entire first 3 months of her life). Its something you could wait on. She did also like her little swinging chair.

Baby bjorn or any kind of sling or something. You will get your hands back. Its amazing! I used it around the house just to get things done. And it really came in handy for us because she hated her carseat, so I used it grocery shopping and pretty much everywhere we went for the first several months.

A sound machine. We just always turned it on at night only, to try and teach her when it was time to sleep for a long time. She learned to sleep through the night pretty quickly, and now goes to bed really easy when we turn it on.

I had to pump because I was going to school, and once she started on the bottles, thats all she would take. We used the Avent bottle system and liked it. I don't have a ton of advice on it though. That's just what we used and they were easy to wash, and I liked the shape of the bottles. IF you even use bottles, you might like a bottle drying rack. Since we were using bottles all the time, we really liked it.

We got the Maxi Cosi stroller/carseat on craigslist, and I still love it, even though she hated her carseat. She just doesn't like to sit in there all strapped in, but it is amazingly smooth, and it was fun when she was littler and would just sleep while we went on walks. The front wheels lock so it can be turned into a jogging stroller too! It was just really easy to manuever in stores at the mall etc. All my friends have the chico stroller/carseats and have liked them too.

We have a bumbo, and I love it. She loves it too, and will just go sit in it (we have it sitting on the ground in the kitchen) when she's hungry. We are just now thinking of getting a highchair since she can easily get in and out of the bumbo and would rather go play than eat. Just an idea, but you could wait on the highchair since they can be expensive and you won't be using it for quite a while.

    Those were my favs!

  7. Danielle! I finally found your new blog. I'd kept forgetting to check it out before, but then i saw the link on Sarah and Eric's.

Anyway, I will have to finish my remarks later after I get the kids in bed but I wanted to say that I personally think burp cloths are a waste of $. Maybe not to others, but I always just used a wash cloth that I used at bath time too. I mean, if you wash them in hot water they're germ free, right? Anyway, those big thick burp rags just got so annoying. But now-a-days with baby boutiques everywhere, the burp rags are too cute and almost a must-have just because of how cute they are...but I didn't use them much with my kids.

Also, those play gym things...they're like $80 and I didn't use those too much. Like those things that lay on the floor and then have some plastic bar things that will arch up and over the mat thing with little toys hanging from the bars...does this make sense? Well, those things I didn't find too useful either. And they're so stinkin' expensive. I mean $60-80! Really?!?

Anyway, those are the 2 things that come to mind right now...I'll answer more later.

    :)

  8. So, I'm a little behind, but better late than never, right?! I'm mostly just going to agree with everyone. We love our swing, and I hope Ellie loves it too. Jack didn't like it very much, but we used it all the time with Addie. I love the boppy and avent bottles too, oh and the Bjorn. I know Kristi said she never used burp clothes, but I use them ALL THE TIME! We've got a spitty little girlie! I have so many burp clothes and I'm pretty sure I use them all. One last thing, I know you guys want books for Colton, and I think that's great! I read to Jack all the time when he was tiny, partly because there were times that I didn't know what else to do with him, but he loved it!

    Good Luck!
